The Bean is essentially a hybrid model offering an exciting alternative to riding more traditional shortboard designs. Appropriately named, the Bean has a full nose template and added width through the centre, which morphs smoothly into a tail outline typical of a standard shortboard.

The unique shape of the Bean, combined with the relaxed rocker profile throughout, provides a platform for easy paddling, efficient start-up acceleration and flow in mushy conditions, while still delivering exceptional pivot and hold in tighter sections.

Fast and full of spark as a thruster or a quad, the Bean offers acrobatic performance in the smaller sizes, and reliable performance in the higher volume sizes. As a general rule you can ride the BEAN 3-to-6 inches shorter than your regular shortboard.

Robert jansen from Zuid Holla, Holland says:

Bought this board for my girlfriend thinking it's shaped for less advanced surfers. Started surfing it myself for fun and now it's "my" standard board. Great speed and radical in the topturns. With 182 cm and 80 kilo's the 5'9" bean fits me perfect. Normally surf it as a quad, go for the thruster setup when the waves get bigger and more powerfull.

Ross Summerell from Virginia, USA says:

As a relatively late starter to the surfing scene I struggled to find a board that fit a self-created unique situation. I was looking for the perfect everyday shortboard (for east coast conditions) and which also had attributes to help enhance and improve my surfing. The "Bean" definitely fits the bill. It has great paddle power that gets into the mushier surf but can handle much larger surf. The rounded squash tail proves to be a crucial element in larger surf providing great maneuverability. The five fin option has allowed me to experiment with both thruster and quad set ups. Overall a board for any or varying conditions and can be used by nearly every surfer.

Forrest Roberts from Virginia, USA says:

Aloha international team rider Forrest Roberts on the Bean: "The Aloha Bean is like no other board I have ridden. It was the first board I had ever ridden that actually made a difference in small waves. I absolutely love how thin it is unlike many other small wave boards. The rounded squash like tail is also an awesome feature because it allows me to transfer rail to rail and surf tight in the pocket super easy. It has a super fun, skateboard type feel. The quality to me that differentiates it from any other board is the fact that it handles extremely well in all types of surf. I have ridden it in less than knee high to 2 feet overhead barrels. It is definitely one of my favorite boards ever, this thing can do anything!!"

Tyler Balak from Virginia, USA says:

Aloha International Team Rider Tyler Balak on the Bean model: "This is my go to board in almost all conditions. Sick in poly construction, insane in SLXC. The Bean is a great all around board for any conditions up to head high, but also is really sick in bigger barrels. In smaller waves, it is a good groveler with enough volume to drive through fat sections, holds well when put on rail and it is short enough to be really sick for airs. In bigger surf, the shorter rocker allows you to slip in under the lip and maneuver in the barrel much better than a longer board. "

John Streit from Virginia , USA says:

After reading the other reviews, I realized I was about to type the same things as the rest of the guys! This is a design that is very in-tune with where surfboard design is headed: higher volume in the upper 2/3 for paddle and planing with performance rails, tail and concave. Don't be fooled by the width or it's fish-like front end: THIS THING GETS GOING in ALL conditions. Here on the U.S. East Coast, the Bean covers all the bases from weak windswell to thumping Outer Banks or New Jersey shacks.

Chris Stellato from Virginia, USA says:

I can't say enough positive things about this board. It has helped my surfing tremendously and helped me keep a smaller quiver. This board excels in a wide variety of conditions, and I've even enjoyed kitesurfing on it with great success. The secret to this board is the great paddle power in the front half, combined with a progressive tail very similar to the AF1 Pro model. It catches waves easily and gets on plane quickly, and the progressive tail & tail rocker make it easy to throw airs and all other manner of skate inspired tricks. Younger surfers and new-school guys will love this board. I am 6'2", 180lbs., I ride the 6'0" Bean as my every-day board and I've enjoyed riding the 5'9" when the waves have a little juice. An insanely good board that will help your surfing and take you to the next level.

roger houck from virginia , usa says:

Replaced 6'2 Flyer with this board. I'm 6'0, 190 lbs. Bought the 6'0. Absolutely love it. Catching alot more waves and as advertised, it really gets going and floats over flatter sections. Riding as a quad. Rode yesterday in head high thinking it may get loose, but it worked great. Only negative: The "Made in Thailand" decal!

Charlie from South Aust, australia says:

Love this board, since i've been riding it my standard shortboard has been in the shed collecting dust, i haven't rode it since. The bean goes unreal, theres nothing i can say i dont like about it. I'm about 5'7 or 5'8, 70kg and i have the 5'6. I surf it in anything up to about solid 6-7 ft no problems. i find the K2.1 fins are a perfect match for this board.

Josh \\ from South Caro, United Statezz of Amerigo says:

I've been riding this board for about a month now. Friggin LOVE IT. Very fast. Very responsive. Works very well in any kind of conditions. I highly recommend this shape to anyone who wants to be a ripper!

J Robert Miller from CA, USA says:

The Bean feels like my go to high performance short board with a bit more wave catching foam under my chest. I'm 180 LBs and 5'11 riding the 5'9". I'm curiouse to see if I can get away with the 5'6".??? The 5'9" has plenty of paddle power and the boyancy seems to come out of no where. It's not bulky at all under the arm like a pig, it's the way to go if you want the benifits of a fish without drifting too far from the shortboard mentality. I got it for when the waves look like they are not going to be supplying much power and I know I'll sink my regular shorty. epic go to stick..

Mark from Vic, Australia says:

Im having a lot of fun on this board. I got the 5'9" . It gets into waves easily with the wider nose and surfs very fast of the bat. It goes great in Junk wavesand insane in super clean 3 foot.. My standard board is 6'2" so this is a great step down from that. Im amped to surf more!!
